Reasonable Accommodation Process
All examination centers are equipped to provide access in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and every reasonable accommodation will be made in meeting a candidate’s needs. Applicants with disabilities or those who would otherwise have difficulty taking the examination are encouraged to to fill out the form located at on our Documents page and email to [email protected] well ahead of the test date to allow time for evaluation and approval.
If an accommodation request cannot be processed in time for the examination, the candidate will need to reschedule to use the approved accommodation for a future exam.
Medical Monitoring with Cell Phone Applications
The use of a cell phone to monitor, display, or warn individuals of important medical information has grown in recent years. Access to this information may be critical for the health and safety of examination candidates. As such, DOB has created the following policy to govern the use of cell phones to monitor medical information during examination administrations.
- Candidate’s submitted Reasonable Accommodation request must be approved by DOB in time to implement the accommodation before the examination.
- At the test site and prior to testing:
- All Wi-Fi and cellular capabilities will be turned off and the phone will be placed in airplane mode. Bluetooth may be enabled after airplane mode is switched on. The candidate should adjust these settings in front of the test proctor.
- The candidate demonstrates usage of medically relevant application(s).
- The proctor will provide a clear plastic bag for storing the cell phone. The phone must remain sealed in the clear plastic bag throughout the exam, including breaks.
- The phone is permitted to be at the candidate’s workstation.
- Candidate may only access the medical data/application(s) approved by DOB. Candidate may not access any other functionality of the phone.
Note: All Reasonable Accommodation requests MUST be submitted in a timely manner to avoid rescheduling. You are encouraged to submit documentation of your disability signed by a medical professional with your application to help us determine the necessary testing arrangements in a timely manner.
